Dayton, Ohio 1989-1990
The Butt Zits’ were Hugh Jones and Ted Hall. Their album “The Sound of Angels” was recorded on a borrowed Tascam 4-track cassette recorder at Hall’s parent’s home from December 1989 through January 1990. They were basically just goofing around, amusing themselves, and making up songs to try to figure out how to make this recording machine work. They were bored, mid-western, suburban, teenagers at the end of the 80s. At that time, punk rock, metal and stuff like S.O.D. and The Mentors were definite influences for these recordings.
“The Metal Prophet” Hugh Jones is featured on drums and backing vocals. Hall plays guitar and contributes lead vocals. Considering their mastery of the technology that was available to them at the time, and the obvious virtuosity that they could not contain within themselves, The Butt Zits have clearly demonstrated that they have always been ahead of their time. Groups like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Air Supply must certainly be jealous of this great musical achievement.
Below you will find a selection of tracks from “The Sound of Angels”. The world may never be ready for a full dose of Butt Zits. Warning: for those with delicate ears, you may encounter explicit and embarrassing lyrics.
